A Filmmaker’s Festival: The Gig Harbor Film Festival’s Executive Director on This Year’s Event

Pam Holt on what’s different for 2023, why it’s so hard for her to pick favorites, and a top-secret movie she can’t talk too much about.


Every year, the Gig Harbor Film Festival gets “hundreds and hundreds of submissions” from all over, according to executive director Pam Holt. The batch of 65 movies that made it through for official screenings this year make up, in Holt’s opinion, the best curation the festival has seen in its 16-year history. There are a few in the lineup that stick out in Holt’s mind — she made it a point to shout out, for one, the opening-night movie “East of the Mountains,” starring the Seattle area’s own Tom Skerritt — but diplomatically put it this way when asked to be specific about particular favorites: “I need to love all the films equally — they’re like my children!”
